[JFT-Basic] Notice regarding domestic implementation and resumption of new reservations
Due to a case of fraud occurring during the domestic administration of Japan Foundation Test for Basic Japanese (JFT-Basic), we will be suspending administration of the test and accepting new reservations for the time being from December 5, 2024. We apologize for the inconvenience caused to Candidate and all other parties involved.
Considering the importance of providing those who wish to take the exam with the opportunity to do so as soon as possible, we have decided to resume holding exams and accepting new reservations at some of Test Center where we have determined that the appropriate environment for administering the exams is sufficiently in place.
For the time being, exams will be held at the following 13 Test Center. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to Candidate and related parties, but we will continue to take the necessary measures to ensure that exams are conducted appropriately, and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
Notes
- Reservation start: December 20, 2024, around 10:00 AM (Japan time)
- First test date after resumption: December 25, 2024 or later
- Test Center: 13 Test Center in 11 cities across Japan
As for other Test Center, we will consider gradually reopening them in the future, starting with Test Center the necessary measures for conducting the test properly can be secured. We will inform you of the details as soon as they are decided.

When the exam resumes, in order to prevent fraudulent test-taking, we will be tightening identity verification at Test Center reception desk. As before, you will be required to present your ① residence card or passport, and ② Confirmation Letter at Test Center. In addition, photographs will be taken of the following subjects.

- The faces of Candidate attended
- Residence card or passport (Residence card holders must bring their residence card with them and present it at the reception desk at Test Center.)
- Confirmation Letter
Regarding your residence card, we will check the residence card information using a reading application (provided by the Immigration Services Agency) and record it, and the passport and Confirmation Letter will be verified by an officer. Please note that if we are unable to verify your identity, you will not be able to take the test.
Please note that photographs taken, residence card verification results, copies of residence card or passport, copies of Confirmation Letter, etc. may be provided to the Japan Foundation by Prometric, the company contracted to administer the test.
In addition, identity verification information such as the photograph taken, the result of the residence card verification, a copy of the residence card or passport, and a copy of Confirmation Letter will be used for the purpose of preventing fraudulent test taking, investigating the results of fraudulent test results, and other purposes for conducting fair tests. Please note that if you do not agree to the photograph being taken, the verification of the residence card or passport and Confirmation Letter, and the provision of the photograph taken, the result of the residence card verification, a copy of the passport, and a copy of Confirmation Letter, you will not be able to take the test.
